Controversial Nigerian street singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, is set to release a new extended play (EP) inspired by his recent clash with the Ogun State government.
The singer was recently declared wanted by the police on charges of conspiracy, serious assault, armed violence, breach of public peace, and attempted murder following allegations of recruiting armed thugs. He later surrendered himself at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba before being transferred to the Ogun State Police headquarters.
Last Friday, he was arraigned in court on a five-count charge, including conspiracy, assault, and possession of dangerous weapons such as cutlasses and guns. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N20 million.
Despite the legal proceedings, Portable has turned the experience into inspiration for his new EP, Ogo Wanted. Taking to Instagram, he teased the project, seemingly referencing his ongoing legal troubles. In his post, he boasted that his earnings from music surpass those from internet fraud, commonly known as “Yahoo Yahoo.”
“Ogo Wanted. Music money pass Yahoo. Zeh Nation, many inspiration,” he wrote.
Fans quickly reacted to the announcement, noting how he had transformed his legal challenges into a musical project.
One follower, @Dorck_i, commented, “Emergency album.”
Another, @Ayor_aad, wrote, “This one used the whole matter to record a full EP.”
@Theonlyimmam added, “They said you shouldn’t talk online again, so now you’re using music instead?”
Following his release, Portable signaled a change in focus, stating that he is done with trouble and is now concentrating on making money.
“My fans, thank God for everything. If you have God, you have everything. I need money. I am not looking for trouble anymore. I’m now focused on making money. I have N2 million bail debt. I need more money. I am looking for money,” he said.
