Nigerian academic excellence continues to shine brightly on the global stage as distinguished legal scholar Professor Ibironke Odumosu-Ayanu has been officially appointed as the new Dean of the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan (USask) in Canada.
Prof. Odumosu-Ayanu will step into her historic five-year term beginning October 1, 2026, succeeding outgoing dean Professor Martin Phillipson. She transitions into the top leadership role after serving as the college’s Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, having built an impressive academic legacy at the institution since joining the faculty in 2008.
Her remarkable journey spans continents. Odumosu-Ayanu laid her foundational legal training in Nigeria, earning her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). She later moved to Canada, where she secured her Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Calgary and her PhD from the University of British Columbia.
Over nearly two decades in Canadian academia, she has earned international acclaim for her pioneering scholarship in business and human rights, international investment law, and natural resource governance. Beyond her prolific research, she is deeply celebrated for her dedication to mentorship and teaching, previously capturing the prestigious Provost’s College Award for Outstanding Teaching.
As she assumes leadership of the prominent Canadian law school, her appointment marks a proud milestone for the Nigerian diaspora, cementing the profound impact of Nigerian intellect within top-tier global educational institutions.
