Members of the lower chamber of the National Assembly have rejected calls for an interim government in Nigeria after May 29, 2023.
During Tuesday’s plenary, the lawmakers feared that such appeals could stifle the nation’s fledgling democracy and unleash anarchy nationwide.
The honourable member representing Oruk Anam/Ukanafun federal constituency, Unyime Idem raised a motion of urgent national importance, reminding the house that the Department of State Services (DSS) had warned of plots to install an interim government after the outcome of the presidential election.
In response to his motion, the green chamber ordered the security services to be on high alert and informed the parties who had been wronged to wait for the results of legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, Ademorin Kuye who is representing Shomolu Federal Constituency has accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of culpability for calling for the cancellation of the results of the presidential election.
