In a political plot twist that has stunned the nation, the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially moved to block the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.
Despite the Governor’s turbulent history with party lines, the APC is now standing as a “shield” against the Rivers State House of Assembly’s attempt to oust the state’s top leadership.
The drama reached a boiling point on Thursday, when the House of Assembly formally commenced impeachment proceedings against Fubara, citing “alleged misconduct.” Under the current timeline, an official impeachment notice is expected to be served to the Governor and his deputy within seven days.
However, the APC isn’t staying silent. In a strongly-worded statement, the party has labeled the move “untenable.”
Darlington Nwauju, the Rivers APC Publicity Secretary, made the party’s position crystal clear: they are rejecting the impeachment process in its entirety.
“It will be totally untenable for our party to keep quiet when an obvious hangover from strifes that occurred within the PDP are allowed to resurface in our great party,” Nwauju stated.
he APC’s logic is strategic and firm. The party views the current Rivers State Government as an APC government and is determined to protect it from internal sabotage or “spillover” drama from other political factions.
