The legendary Sade Adu is once again at the threshold of music history. The Nigerian-born British singer, known for her timeless contralto and “quiet storm” soul, has officially secured her second nomination for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the diverse Class of 2026.
Unveiled by the Hall of Fame Foundation on February 25, 2026, Sade stands among 17 elite contenders, including first-time nominees like Lauryn Hill, Phil Collins, and Wu-Tang Clan, alongside returning heavyweights like Mariah Carey and Oasis. This nomination is a significant nod to her enduring 40-year career, which began with her 1984 debut Diamond Life—still one of the best-selling debut albums by a British female vocalist.
Born in Ibadan, Nigeria, Sade Adu has always been one of the country’s most sophisticated global exports. Despite her famously private lifestyle and long breaks between albums, her influence remains unmatched; global stars like Beyoncé and Drake frequently cite her as their ultimate muse. Having previously been nominated in 2024, fans are now rallying behind her for the final vote, hoping 2026 is the year she officially takes her place among the immortals.
The final class of inductees will be determined by a voting body of over 1,200 industry professionals and a public fan vote. Winners are expected to be announced in April 2026, with the induction ceremony taking place later this fall.
