Samson Adamu was officially appointed as the Acting Secretary-General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Sunday, March 29, 2026. This landmark decision was ratified by the CAF Congress at the Giza Palace Hotel in Cairo, Egypt, following his nomination by the CAF Executive Committee.
He makes history as the first Nigerian to ever occupy this position since CAF was founded nearly seven decades ago in 1957. He takes over the role from Veron Mosengo-Omba, the Swiss-Congolese official who resigned from the position on the same day.
Before this appointment, Samson Adamu—the son of renowned sports administrator Dr. Amos Adamu—served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events. In that capacity, he gained widespread recognition for his effective management of logistics and the successful delivery of major continental competitions. His new role as Secretary-General is often regarded as the “engine room” of African football, as he will now be responsible for the daily operations of CAF, legal affairs, and the implementation of executive committee decisions during a pivotal time for the organization.
