operatives of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) have arrested a man, Tasiu Adamu Maje, for allegedly selling and leasing a government-owned horse stable!
The government asset, situated at the famous Race Course (Filin Sukuwa) in Kano, is statutorily managed by the Kano State Sports Commission. However, details revealed that Maje unlawfully took control of the property, selling it off to an unsuspecting buyer, Muhammad Amir Yunusa, for a whopping N4.5 million. To make matters even more bizarre, the suspect had also been pocketing rent payments from another victim, collecting N150,000 out of a demanded N180,000 lease agreement!
The entire scheme blew open after the victims filed formal complaints, prompting the anti-graft agency to launch a swift investigation. PCACC Acting Chairman, Hafsat Ada’u Kutama, confirmed the arrest and declared all transactions completely unauthorized, null, and void. The agency reiterated that government property belongs strictly to the state and warned members of the public to thoroughly verify ownership before making payments on real estate deals.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court as the agency moves to fully recover the state asset.
