Afrobeats star Joeboy has stepped into the heated debate surrounding the 2026 Grammy Awards, where South African sensation Tyla secured her second consecutive win in the Best African Music Performance category for her hit “Push 2 Start.” The win sparked significant backlash from Nigerian fans, as Tyla beat out a heavyweight lineup including Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Omah Lay. However, in a recent interview with Jay On-Air, Joeboy offered a rare perspective of support for the South African singer. While admitting he was “personally rooting for Davido,” Joeboy insisted that Tyla’s victory was justified.
“She is an amazing artist, whether you accept it or not. She really put in the work,” Joeboy stated. “People can be angry all they want, but she deserved the Grammy win. I can’t fault her triumph.”
Tyla’s “Push 2 Start” was the only song in the category to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and surpassed 600 million streams globally, making her the first artist to win the category twice since its inception in 2024.
