Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), attributing his decision to unresolved leadership crises at the party’s national level.
In a statement posted on his Instagram page late Monday night, Adeleke confirmed that he submitted his resignation letter on November 4, 2025, to party officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government.
“Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025. I thank the party and its many members and supporters for the opportunities they have provided me, first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and now as Governor of Osun State,” Adeleke stated.

Earlier reports from the PDP’s Osun chapter suggested that Adeleke was unlikely to seek the party’s ticket for the 2026 governorship election unless the internal disputes were resolved. Party leaders had expressed hope that a resolution, formally recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), could persuade him to reconsider.
The state leadership reiterated that Adeleke’s decision might change if the crises affecting the PDP are addressed within INEC’s timeline for the Osun governorship poll.
