The appointment of Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund by his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, has brought different reactions from the general public.
The announcement which was made on Wednesday by the the state deputy governor, Kola Adewusi, who doubles as the Commissioner for Sports, stated that the appointment of Davido was aimed at using his global connections in raising funds to transform the state sports sector.
“I am pleased to inform you that plans are in advanced stages towards the establishment of the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as a central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation. Introduction of a Sports Trust Fund to attract support from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable sports financing and development.
“Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate in accepting the appointment. His intervention would attract funds that would impact Osun sports positively,” the statement said.
However, many Nigerians do not see the appointment of the music star as merited with some seeing it as a family affair while others believe it is putting a square peg in a round hole and would not make any meaningful impact.
