The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a strongly worded warning against the escalation of political violence following a violent attack that recently rocked Kaduna State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The incident, which reportedly left several individuals injured and properties damaged during a local political gathering, has drawn widespread condemnation from civil society groups and opposition parties alike. In an official statement released by the party’s national secretariat, the ADC expressed deep concern over the growing desperation among certain political actors, warning that turning local communities into battlegrounds threatens the very survival of the nation’s democratic experiment.
“Democracy is a contest of ideas, not a war of weapons. We strongly condemn the cowardly attack in Kaduna and urge security agencies to fish out the perpetrators immediately to serve as a deterrent,” the party declared.
The opposition party called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security architecture to beef up intelligence gathering and ensure neutral, robust protection for political gatherings across flashpoint states.
