Lagos is set to experience a major cultural and sporting shift as preparations reach the final stage for the 100-Hour Youth Link Up, scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Organized by a youth collective known as “The Gathering,” the event is being billed as a “cultural reset,” designed to run for 100 consecutive hours of networking, creativity, and sports.
The Scouting Mission
While the event covers everything from tech and fashion to “soft life” experiences, the grassroots football component is a major draw for the state’s athletic talent.
- Five-a-Side Scouting: The 100-hour marathon includes dedicated five-a-side football sessions. These matches are designed as high-visibility platforms for grassroots players to showcase their skills in a high-energy, unconventional environment.
- Talent Hub: Scouts and sports administrators are expected to be on-site to identify standout players from the various five-a-side teams, bridging the gap between informal street football and more structured academy pathways.
- “The Plug” Collaboration: Beyond the pitch, the event features “The Plug”—peer-led advisory sessions where young athletes can connect with mentors in the sports and media industries to discuss brand building and career longevity.
What Else to Expect
True to its “100-hour” promise, the venue will transform into a multi-dimensional youth village featuring:
- The Tech & Hustle Zone: Networking lounges for “Tech Bros” and young entrepreneurs to co-create and pitch ideas.
- Creative Expression: Silent discos, a “Rant Show” booth for open-mic venting, fashion showcases, and even pop-up tattoo and piercing stations.
- Wellness & Chill: Dedicated movie pods and spa treatments for those looking to “unplug” during the four-day stretch.
How to Participate
Registration is currently ongoing at gatheringng.com. With over 60% of Nigeria’s population being youth, the organizers are positioning this as the largest gathering of its kind in the country’s history, fueled by a philosophy of “choosing joy over status.”
