Teyana Taylor Ordered to Pay Ex-Husband Iman Shumpert $70K in Contempt Ruling

The messy fallout from Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert’s split has taken another public turn, as the singer and actress has been ordered to pay her ex-husband $70,000 in legal fees. This comes after a judge found her in contempt of court for violating the terms of their 2024 divorce settlement.

Both parties appeared in court on July 25, facing off over accusations that each had breached the divorce judgment. The key sticking point? A clause stating neither side could publicly disclose details of the settlement. According to court documents, Shumpert argued that Taylor crossed the line when she posted an Instagram video on March 19, 2025, revealing information about their divorce judgment. The judge agreed, ruling that the “Rose in Harlem” star willfully violated the non-disclosure provision.

Taylor’s counter-accusation that Shumpert himself leaked details to the press fell flat in court, as the judge said she did not present enough evidence to back her claim. Matters were made worse for Taylor when the court noted she refused to answer questions from Shumpert about her assets and income, dismissing them as “completely irrelevant.” The judge disagreed and hit her with the $70,000 bill to cover Shumpert’s legal fees, while denying her own request for him to foot hers.

It wasn’t all bad news for the 34-year-old entertainer. The court threw out Shumpert’s attempt to have her held in contempt for allegedly violating their parenting plan.

Taylor and Shumpert’s divorce has been anything but quiet. She filed in secret back in January 2023, accusing the former NBA star of being a jealous and emotionally abusive partner claims he has strongly denied. In his own filings, Shumpert asked for the grounds for divorce to be changed from “cruel treatment” to “irretrievably broken bond,” insisting he never acted in a way that made her feel unsafe.

The pair, who married in October 2016, share two daughters: nine-year-old Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr. and four-year-old Rue Rose Shumpert.
