OAP Mayowa Sues Ex-Husband: On-Air Personality Mayowa Lambe has officially sued her ex-husband, Roby Ekpo, for ₦100 million. The suit follows allegedly defamatory statements he made about her on a recent podcast appearance.
A legal battle has erupted within the Nigerian media space as On-Air Personality Mayowa Lambe issued a cease-and-desist notice and a ₦100 million defamation demand to her ex-husband, Roby Ekpo, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
The dispute follows Roby’s recent emotional appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, which has sparked intense debate across social media regarding the timeline and breakdown of their decade-long relationship.
The Defamation Claims
In a notice issued through the legal department of Aunt Landa’s Bethel Foundation, Mayowa’s representatives accused Roby of a “deliberate and sustained campaign of falsehood.” The specific grievances include:
- The Remarriage Controversy: Roby claimed he discovered through Instagram that Mayowa had remarried in Texas after 11 years of marriage. Mayowa’s legal team counters that their traditional marriage was “mutually terminated” with family consent prior to May 11, 2025, and no legal marriage subsisted during his podcast appearance.
- Allegations of Deception: On the podcast, Roby alleged Mayowa used a trip to Miami (ostensibly for fertility treatments) to undergo a cosmetic BBL procedure and claimed she secretly used contraceptives while he underwent fertility tests.
- Financial and Infidelity Claims: Roby alleged he was “financially drained” supporting her abroad for six years and claimed she shared an apartment with a male flatmate who was intimate with her. Mayowa’s team asserts they have “verifiable evidence” of her own financial contributions and medical records that contradict his narrative.
The Legal Demands & Response
- The Ultimatum: Mayowa’s legal team gave Roby a 48-hour deadline to retract his statements, remove all defamatory content from digital platforms, and pay ₦100,000,000 in damages.
- Roby’s Rejection: On Thursday, April 23, Roby formally rejected the demand through his lawyers at TAP Legal Services. He described the ₦100m demand as “excessive, unfounded, and premature,” maintaining that his statements were based on his “personal experiences and matters he reasonably believes to be true.”
- Counter-Threat: Roby’s team hinted at a potential counter-suit for harassment and stated they would present their own documentary evidence. They even mentioned a possible petition to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regarding statements made in Mayowa’s notice.
