The family of late Nigerian gospel singer Olayemi Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, has called for an investigation into his death and asked that his burial be suspended until the circumstances are established.
The singer died in Ibadan in October, leaving behind family members, fellow gospel artistes and fans mourning his passing. But discussions over his final resting place have become complicated, with disagreements reportedly emerging between his paternal relatives and his widow over where he should be buried.
His uncle, Lawal Ademola, speaking on behalf of the paternal family, said relatives wanted a thorough and impartial investigation before the burial proceeded. The family has also expressed different preferences about whether the singer should be laid to rest at his Ibadan residence or in his hometown of Ikirun, Osun State.
The dispute has attracted public attention because Toluwanisings was known for his gospel music, including the song “Kabiyesi Olorun Ayo.” His death has left supporters seeking answers while relatives navigate grief and decisions about his funeral.
It is important to distinguish the family’s demand for an investigation from proof of wrongdoing. Allegations raised by relatives have not, by themselves, established the cause of death or confirmed that anyone was responsible.
For now, the family’s central request is that the relevant authorities establish the facts before burial arrangements move forward. The situation has also renewed discussion about the need for sensitive communication and clear procedures when families disagree during bereavement.
As the story develops, many fans will hope the questions surrounding the singer’s death can be addressed transparently and that his loved ones can find a way forward.
