Insecurity has struck Kaduna State again as heavily armed bandits invaded the Babban Saura community in Chikun Local Government Area, killing a male resident and abducting nine others, including the deceased’s wife and two children.
The violent midnight raid threw the community into total confusion and panic as the attackers moved from house to house firing shots into the air. According to eyewitnesses and local residents, the victim, identified simply as Mr. Sikiru, was shot dead inside his residence before the gunmen forcefully marched his wife, children, and several neighbors into the surrounding bushes.
Promptly responding to a distress call, a joint team of local vigilantes and military personnel mounted a pursuit along the Eastern Bypass axis. The security forces successfully rescued a woman identified as Maman Mubarak, though the bandits managed to escape deeper into the forest terrain with her four children and the remaining victims.
The latest assault comes just days after a similar violent invasion in nearby Kadaure community, where another resident was killed and livestock rustled. Terrified residents of Chikun LGA have appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to deploy permanent military checkpoints and intensify anti-banditry operations to protect vulnerable communities across the state.
