Tragedy struck mid-flight in the skies between East and West Africa after a passenger aboard a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to Lagos suffered a severe medical emergency and passed away shortly before touchdown.
The heartbreaking incident occurred aboard the international flight as the Boeing aircraft was making its final descent into Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. According to an official statement released by Kenya Airways management, crew members noticed that the passenger became completely unresponsive approximately 20 minutes before the scheduled landing.
The cabin crew immediately initiated emergency protocols and alerted ground medical teams at the Lagos airport. Upon touching down at approximately 9:41 p.m., standby medical officers boarded the plane to administer urgent care, but sadly, the passenger was pronounced dead on arrival.
Airport security operatives, including the Airport Command of the Nigeria Police Force, have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. Flight attendants and the aircraft captain have provided statements, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at a morgue in Ikeja pending further medical examinations.
Kenya Airways expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, assuring the public that it is working closely with aviation authorities and police investigators while upholding the privacy and dignity of all involved.
