UCL: Arsenal send Madrid parking, progress to semis

A vallaint Arsenal side defied all odds as they sent Real Madrid out of the Uefa Champions League on an impressive 5-1 aggregate to book a place in the semi finals of the competition for themselves.

Off the back of a shocking 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium last Tuesday, Madrid had made clear that they would come all out to overturn the scoreline in a comeback fashion that the Spanish giants have become known for in the competition.

Mikel Arteta and his men were subjected to play under a closed Santiago Bernabêu roof, part of Madrid’s game plan to break the English side, who eventually had the last laugh.

Composed under pressure, The Gunners kept their heads in the game and could have taken the lead 13 minutes into the game, but for Bukayo Saka’s missed penalty.

The England international however redeem himself when he broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, following a goalless first half draw.  Saka’s goals was immediately cancelled two minutes by Vinicius Junior’s equalizer following an error from William Saliba.

The equalizer spark hope for a possible comeback for Madrid but it wasn’t there night, because not only did they fail to find the back of the net again, but Gabriel Martinelli sealed things up a stoppage time goal.

Having successful sent the defending champions parking, Arsenal will go on to trade tackles with French Champions, PSG in the Semis for a place in the final.
