The 2024 Trendupp Awards witnessed a fiercely contested race in the “Force for Social Good” category, with Tunde Onakoya emerging as the winner.
Onakoya, a Guinness World Record holder for the longest chess marathon, triumphed over other prominent figures, including the vocal social critic VeryDarkMan, as well as Aproko Doctor, Adepeju Olukokun, Osita Popcorn, and Seyi Oluyole.
While VeryDarkMan’s advocacy for social change and justice resonated with many, Onakoya’s significant achievements and philanthropic efforts earned him the award.
The outcome has sparked discussions on social media, with some praising Onakoya’s win and others believing VeryDarkMan was the more deserving nominee. Some irate VDM fans think he was robbed and should have won. However, the minority think that he should not have been nominated in the first place.

The Trendupp Awards honours influencers, content creators, and brands excelling in the use of social media across diverse fields and platforms. It celebrates originality, highlighting the bold efforts of content producers and influencers.
The fourth edition of the Trendupp Awards was held at the Federal Palace, Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos on Sunday night.
A total of 102 social media personalities battled for awards in 17 categories.
