Controversial social critic VeryDarkMan has offered a tearful yet sarcastic apology to gospel singer Mercy Chinwo after being hit with a N1.1 billion lawsuit.
The N1.1 billion lawsuit filed by Mercy Chinwo on March 3 has sparked a dramatic response from controversial social critic VeryDarkMan (VDM). The lawsuit was filed after VDM posted a series of Instagram accusations, claiming that Chinwo had withheld earnings from her performances instead of remitting them to her former record label, EeZee Conceptz, owned by Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu (EeZee Tee).
In response to the legal action, VeryDarkMan took to Instagram, listing several other individuals who have also filed lawsuits against him, lamenting that he cannot meet the financial demands. The list includes:
Femi Falana and Folarin Falana: N500 million
Prophet Jerrymaiah Omoto Fufeyin: N1 billion
Nedu Ani (Nedu Wazobia): N500 million
Esinjemiyotan Atsepoy (Mr Jollof’s wife): N500 million
Idris Okuneye (Bobrisky): N1 billion
Ihuoma Julia Nneji (Daughter of ABC Transport founder)
In a bizarre twist, VeryDarkMan shared a tearful video on Instagram, pleading with Mercy Chinwo to reduce the lawsuit amount. He humorously sang some of her popular songs while asking for the figure to be lowered to a more manageable N5 million, which he claims he could afford.
“Una go kee me, the money wey dey inside the NGO sef no reach that amount,” he said tearfully. “I know this case is not something I can win, so it’s better I tender an apology. Mercy, don’t let the devil use you. I don’t have N1 billion to pay if you win. Abeg, I’m not saying you shouldn’t sue, but maybe reduce the money to N5 million.”
Meanwhile, VDM’s legal representative, Deji Adeyanju, took to X (formerly Twitter) to mock the claims, suggesting that VDM doesn’t even have the funds to settle such a hefty lawsuit. “I heard somebody sued VDM for N1.1 billion, and I laughed so hard. What I know is that VDM does not have N100k anywhere in the world to give anyone. People just be wasting their time for nothing,” Adeyanju wrote.
