Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Youth Wing of the Labour Party (LP) has officially opened discussions to form a strategic political alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The sudden realignment came after a high-powered virtual meeting involving the Labour Party National Youth Leader, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, alongside national, zonal, and state youth leaders across the country. In an official statement issued by Edo State Youth Leader Comrade Ken Omusi, the wing reviewed the party’s ongoing internal crises and expressed frustration over what they described as total negligence, lack of engagement, and zero support for the youth constituency following the 2023 elections.
Reeling from the aftermath of the 2023 presidential campaign, several youth leaders openly lamented that they felt they “laboured in vain” for candidates who failed to consolidate political gains after the elections. Seeking a more effective platform for youth participation in national governance, the executive council mandated Prince Ahanotu to initiate direct talks with the APC leadership, the Renewed Hope Movement, City Boy Movement, and various Tinubu Support Groups.
The proposed cross-party bridge-building marks one of the biggest political realignments since the 2023 polls, signaling a potential shift in the youth movement that previously drove the opposition’s momentum.
