Wike Fires Back at ASUU, Defends Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has reignited the controversy surrounding the University of Abuja’s land after challenging the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to justify its opposition to the reallocation of portions of the institution’s land.

Wike reportedly insisted that ASUU does not have the authority to determine how land in the Federal Capital Territory should be administered.

The disagreement has attracted attention because university land disputes are often sensitive, particularly when they involve institutional development, staff concerns and the interests of surrounding communities.

The minister’s remarks have added another layer to the ongoing debate over the Federal Government’s handling of land administration in Abuja.

Wike also used the opportunity to reaffirm his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, showing that political positioning ahead of 2027 remains firmly on his agenda.

The controversy is likely to keep the university community and political observers engaged as questions continue over the future of the disputed land.

For Nigerians, the bigger issue is how government authorities can balance development plans with the rights and concerns of public institutions.
