“You’ve Shown You’re Incapable of Securing Lives” — Falz Slams Tinubu Over Benue Massacre

Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the recent mass killing in Benue State, accusing the government of gross incompetence in protecting Nigerian lives.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Falz condemned the president’s silence and lack of concrete action, following reports that over 200 people were slaughtered and burnt alive in a series of violent attacks across parts of Benue.

“You have consistently shown that you are incapable of performing the primary duty of securing lives and property of your citizens. This routine statement does not cut it.”

Enough of us not paying attention and moving on like it’s nothing. Enough of these routine statements that mean absolutely nothing. Nobody deserves to be wasted away like the 200 plus people in Benue state. Enough of these horrific crimes without consequences.

‎No one forced you to be in office. The primary duty of the Federal government, through all of its agencies is to secure lives and property of its people.”

The “This Is Nigeria” singer expressed deep frustration at the growing sense of insecurity, noting that routine press releases and empty condolences have become a dangerous norm from those in power, while citizens continue to die in horrific numbers.

In another emotional post, Falz highlighted how underreported and ignored the Benue massacre has been across national discourse and the media.

“Over 200 senselessly slain and burnt alive in Benue and this is not even getting close to enough attention. Why are we so wicked to ourselves?”

The posts have since gone viral, with thousands of Nigerians echoing his concerns. Many users expressed shock over the scale of the killings and the lack of national mourning or swift government response.

As of the time of filing this report, President Tinubu has not made a direct statement on the Benue tragedy beyond a general government condolence released earlier by presidential spokespersons. The lack of immediate and decisive action has further fueled criticism of the government’s handling of Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, especially in rural communities affected by banditry, herdsmen clashes, and ethnic violence.

Falz has long used his platform to call out injustice, from the #EndSARS protests to speaking against corruption, police brutality, and poor governance. His latest comments add to the growing public outcry demanding urgent intervention and accountability from the highest office in the land.
