Akande Calls For the Establishment of a Tripartite Committee

Former vice president Yemi Osinbajo spokesman Laolu Akande has encouraged President Bola Tinubu to organize a tripartite committee made up of representatives from the National Assembly, the Presidency, and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akande stated this when he appeared on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Thursday.

The tripartite committee, according to the former presidential spokesman, would assist in resolving communication problems between the three separate but connected bodies for smooth governance.

The analyst said that the concerns expressed by certain northern APC members in the National Assembly regarding the relocation of some departments of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) would have been allayed if a tripartite committee similar to the one headed by Osinbajo and established by former President Muhammadu Buhari had been in place.

According to Akande, it makes sense for the central bank to relocate certain sections, such as the Bank Supervision Department, to Lagos, as the majority of commercial banks have their main offices there. He added, “Lagos is Nigeria’s aviation hub, so it makes sense that some FAAN departments were moved back to Lagos, where they were before former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika moved them to Abuja.”

He said the government can do a lot better than it is doing now with the public in the area of communication.

Akande said, “What kind of communication is taking place within the APC about what the government is doing? There seems to be a disconnect because normally, there should be effective communication between the party and the government.

“I remember that there used to be a committee headed by the Vice President that was set up by the President that had the members of the Presidency, members of the party, and members of the National Assembly that meet just so things can connect and there can be coordination.

“I think President Bola Tinubu needs to do. He needs to have a place where the Presidency, the National Assembly, and the ruling party sit regularly to resolve things. That’s a form of communication that is missing right now.”
