Labour Party unveils Presidential Campaign Council

The Labour Party unveiled its 1,234-member Presidential Campaign Council on Wednesday.

Doyin Okupe, the director general of the council, added that those who believe the party only has supporters on social media will be in for a shock come election day in 2023.

Speaking to media in Abuja, Okupe said that the Labour Party would be supported by more than 80% of all new voters in the upcoming general elections.

Okupe continued to serve as the council’s director general, and Mohammed Zarewa, a retired assistant inspector general of police, currently serves as the council’s chairman.

The names of the Labour Party’s campaign council for the 2023 presidential election were read aloud by Clement Ojukwu, the party’s national organising secretary.

The 1,234-member campaign council is an inclusive organisation, in his opinion.

Okupe emphasised the party’s campaign approach in his remarks, stressing that the support base extends beyond social media.

Okupe characterised the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party as outdated goods with flawed structures.

According to him, the APC and PDP candidates would have been disqualified from the outset of the presidential election if there had been a strict pre-qualification procedure.

Okupe said, “I am not talking here about the dubious nature of educational records, nor even allegations of foreign court-certified criminal narcotic records, nor any basis of poor health, and not even of falsified or advanced age, but I refer to the fundamental parameters of competence and character, where none of these other known candidates measures up, in any way, to Peter Obi and Dr Yusuf Datti-Ahmed.”
