Lagos Police Pick Date To Give Update On Mohbad’s Death Investigations

The Lagos State Police Command has disclosed that it would hold a press conference to give Nigerians information about the investigations into the death of former Marlian signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba professionally known as Mohbad.

The State Police Commissioner, Idowu Owohunwa would address the press by 3 pm at the state headquarters in Ikeja during which updates regarding the investigation into Mohbad’s death are expected to be made known to members of the public.

The scheduled press conference was confirmed on Thursday by the Lagos State Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin during a phone chat with Punch.

“The CP will be addressing the press tomorrow by 3 p.m. Come with all your questions and he will answer them. Until then, I can’t talk,” Hundeyin said.

Mohbad died on September 12, 2023 in a hospital in Lagos State after reportedly being admitted with an ear infection, and was hurriedly buried the next day.

The cause of his death was unclear and police subsequently exhumed his body to conduct an autopsy, the results of which have not yet been released.

Since MohBad’s death, fans have marched through the streets of several Nigerian cities calling for a thorough investigation. Spontaneous memorial gatherings have also been organised in London, Canada and the US, and the #JusticeforMohBad hashtag has gone viral on social media.

The case has become a litmus test for Nigerian police in the eyes of many young people, three years after the brutal suppression of the EndSars protests against police abuses.

The Lagos state commissioner of police, speaking to #JusticeforMohBad campaigners, promised to use the singer’s death to change the negative narrative about the law enforcement agencies. Idowu Omohunwa said: “You are looking for justice, I’m paid as a policeman to deliver justice, so there is a meeting point, we are in the same boat.”

Hopefully, the police will give positive feedback in the Press conference.
