Billionaire businessman and socialite, Obi Cubana has finally regained his freedom, after spending three nights in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Obi Cubana was arrested and taken to the headquarters of the EFCC at Jabi, Abuja, at about noon on Monday and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged money laundering and tax fraud.

Following his arrest, it was rumoured that he had already been released before now. His colleague and friend triggered the rumours with his post;

“Thank u Jesus!! @obi_cubana is free. We gat Jesus!!! . Dis Dance is for all my fans. I love u all.”

However, countering the earlier impression of his release, the PUNCH reported that he was still in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and reportedly confiscated his passport.

The source stated, “Obi Cubana has not been released, he is still having quality sessions with investigators over alleged money laundering running into millions of naira and tax fraud.

He will be released when he has satisfactorily responded to all questions relating to his involvement in various illegal deals. As part of an investigation, his travel document has been temporarily seized pending the conclusion of investigations.”

Then finally, in the early hours of Thursday, the Anambra-born club owner regained his freedom for real. The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, also confirmed that Cubana had been released.
