Police Invite Burna boy for Interrogation Over Club Shooting

LAGOS—Police authorities in Lagos State have reportedly invited popular music artiste, Damini Ogulu, alias Burna Boy, for interrogation over the alleged shooting of fun-seekers at Club Cubana by police escorts assigned to him.

It was earlier reported that at about 4am on June 8, Burnaboy and five police escorts visited club Cubana. Four out of the five policemen waited outside while one of the policemen, identified as Inspector Ibrahim, who was in mufti, accompanied the Grammy-Award-winning artiste into the club.

According to multiple witness statements, the singer was in the VIP section with three women when he spotted another woman whom he told Ibrahim to invite over.

However, the lady’s husband refused, insisting that it was disrespectful for any man to make advances at his wife in his presence.

After some minutes, Burna Boy reportedly made fresh advances at the woman. This infuriated her husband further and his friends who had gathered at the club.

“As things were getting heated, Ibrahim brought out his service pistol and shot multiple times while Burna Boy was laughing,” said a senior policeman.

In the process, 27-year-old Lawrence was shot in the thigh while his friend, Tolu, was hit in the head by a bullet and Burnaboy aware of what he did, took the next available flight to Spain.

Vanguard reports that police sources confirmed that detectives have been assigned to unravel the singer’s location and bring him for interrogation.

Although Burna Boy is believed to have travelled out of the country immediately after the incident, the police said he is expected to honor the invitation.

“Already, five police escorts attached to the singer have since been arrested and are being detained at the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja,” the source added.

Similarly, another source revealed that the escorts involved in the incident didn’t notify the police about the incident. According to the source, it was eyewitnesses that reported the shooting incident to the police.

It was also revealed that the five police escorts were assigned to him from the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
