A United States-based agriculturalist and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Yomi Akingbade, has called on Nigerians to focus on the capability and competence of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima in the coming election.
Akingbade remarked that Tinubu and his running mate had demonstrated capacity and competence for good governance with solid track records as past governors of Lagos and Borno states, respectively. This was in response to Shettima’s official unveiling.
He said: “In 1993, most Nigerians in the North and South irrespective of religion voted for Abiola and Kingibe, who were then Muslim-Muslim candidates, and they won. In 1993, Nigerians focused on the capacity and competence of Abiola and Kingibe. This is why, in 2023, Nigerians should also focus on the capacity and competence of Tinubu and Shettima. Both would make Nigeria proud.”
The former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, was formally introduced as Bola Tinubu’s running mate on Wednesday.
Two weeks earlier, the party’s national chairman had chosen the legislator as his vice-presidential candidate.
Shettima is a serving senator and former two-term governor of Borno state.
On July 10, Tinubu announced Shettima as his running mate.
After Ibrahim Masari resigned as Tinubu’s “placeholder” running partner, Shettima was named the party’s vice presidential candidate.
Masari was chosen in June to serve as Tinubu’s temporary running mate.
Due to the fact that both men are Muslims, Tinubu’s choice of running partner drew harsh condemnation from many people.
