Toke Makinwa narrates her ordeal after her marriage ended
Media Personality, Toke Makinwa, in a chat #WithChude revealed how her marriage ended without any warning signs and the effect it had on her after it was paraded online before she was even ready to make it public.
“I went to bed one way and I woke up the other. When it broke out in the media, I was sleeping”, Toke said.
She admitted that the circumstances surrounding her split from her husband left her heartbroken but she had to put herself together and keep working because that was the only way she could find her feet again.
“I was at work the next day because that was the only thing I knew how to do. I knew I had to carry on because I needed the cash. I had to work because I did not want to be broke. I knew that if I was going to leave this marriage, I was not going to leave with a trust fund. So, I needed to work my ass off to make sure that at least getting a place, I could afford it”, she said.
In 2016, Toke published a ‘tell-tale’ book ‘On Becoming’, chronicling her life; providing details and deep insights into her marriage and relationship with her ex-husband, Ayida.
The book’s release was greeted with a lot of controversies to the point where Ayida in February 2017, filed a 100 million Naira lawsuit for defamation of character against her.
According to the book, Ayida reportedly impregnated another woman, with whom he had been cheating on Makinwa for eight years. Their marriage was dissolved in 2017, citing Ayida’s adulterous lifestyle as the major reason.
