Senator Akpabio Still in Race for Senate Presidency- Udom

Former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and Akwa Ibom North-West Senator-Elect, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has said he is still in the contest for the race of the Senate President ahead of the 10th Senate.

He noted this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Jackson Udom, Monday. His comment follows media reports that the Senator-elect has dropped his Senate Presidency ambition for a ministerial appointment in Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

But in a swift response, Udom noted that Akpabio said: “Please, tell them that the story is complete falsehood and blackmail cooked and served from the pit of hell.

“These tissues of lies lack substance and only exist in the minds of its purveyors and backers.”

Following the rules of Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act of 2022, Akpabio, a former minority leader in the Senate, resigned from his position as minister of Niger Delta Affairs in order to run in the APC’s presidential primary (APC).

It would be recalled that during the presidential primary race of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Akpabio was one of the seven presidential aspirants who stepped down for Tinubu.

Meanwhile, on May 29, 2023, Tinubu will be sworn in as president. New legislation approved by President Buhari in the constitutional amendments requires him to appoint his cabinet within 60 days of taking office.
