HeadsUp FA Cup: Wembley Is Red, So Is London!
The sky at Wembley was red and the joy of Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal side knew absolutely no bounds as they held their Heads Up after coming from behind to win a record 14th Emirates FA Cup title following a 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the London derby final.
Straight off to business, Chelsea took the lead 5 minutes into the game through a Christian Pulisic clean finish.
That victory was short lived as captain Aubameyang, got Arsenal back into the game with a calmly taken spot kick which he won following a foul by Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta.
Trouble came knocking on Frank Lampard’s door when Chelsea got hit by a first-half injury to Azpilicueta and their worries compounded when they lost the outstanding Pulisic to a hamstring problem rights after the break
Chelsea’s agony increased further when Mateo Kovacic was sent after a second yellow card was awarded by referee Anthony Taylor for a seemingly harmless of challenge on Granit Xhaka, and while the blues where still trying to wrap their heads around their misfortunes, the brilliant Aubameyang struck, as he always does, giving the gunners the lead which was just enough to hand Mikel Arteta a silverware in his first season as the Gunners’ manager.
Never has the North Londoners needed an FA Cup victory more, as the iconic 14th FA Cup triumph means the gunners secured a place in the Europa League next season to save them the embarrassment of missing out on European football next season for the first time in 25 years, following a rather disappointing campaign that saw them finish outside the top 4 in over 2 decades.
But it was bitter disappointment for Chelsea manager Frank Lampard who hoped to own a silverware at the conclusion of his first campaign in charge and Chelsea fans who cried out for what they perceived as controversies surrounding last night’s officiating.
The Cup is done and dusted, Chelsea has their eyes set on their Champions League round of 16 return leg against Bayern Munich and with all their injury concerns, we can’t help but wonder if they stand a chance against the formidable Champions of Germany. Do they?
