America rapper, Pokey, slumps and dies while performing on stage

American rapper Milton Powell best known as Big Pokey has passed away at 45.

The Houston-born rapper collapsed on stage while performing at the Pour09 Bar in Beaumont Texas, late Saturday night.

Footage from the event showed Pokey with a mic in his hand, speaking with a DJ on stage when he exhaled heavily, tripped, and fell on stage.

At first, the public thought it was nothing serious, even in the videos circulating on social networks you can see how people laugh at the sight of Big Pokey falling, but as the minutes passed they realized that it was much more serious than it seemed.

Witnesses rushed to help the 45-year-old before he was taken to a nearby hospital where he gave up the ghost.

Pokey’s representative confirmed his death in a statement on behalf of the family, as they ask for privacy in the face of the hard moment they are going through and while they  await the autopsy result.

“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Milton ‘Big Pokey’ Powell. Big Pokey passed away on June 18, 2023. He was beloved by his family, friends and loyal fans. “In the coming days, we will be posting information about his celebration of life and how the public can pay their respects. We ask that you respect his family and their privacy during this difficult time,” read the statement.

Powell was best known as a founding member of the Screwed Up Click, an influential hip-hop collective of Houston-based artists.

Powell charted in the Billboard Hot 100 when he appeared on the Paul Wall single Sittin Sidewayz in 2005. And last year, he featured on Megan Thee Stallion’s Southside Royalty Freestyle.

May his soul rest in peace.
