EPL: Chelsea snatch narrow win against Everton in season opener
Chelsea kicked off the 2022/2023 English Premier League season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park, to set a record 20th opening match victory.
Thomas Tuchel handed new signings Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling a start in the game and though they did their best, it was Jorginho’s penalty at the nick of half time, that separated both sides.
Everton weren’t much of a threat as they were a notable striker following the sale of Richarlison and an injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Frank Lampard’s side struggled to find their footing in the game and an early injury to defender Ben Godfrey, who was taken off on a stretcher, only made matters worse.
Might too early in the season to say, but it does look like Lampard has a lot on his plate already.
