Exercise Patience With Tinubu-Led Government Information Minister Calls

Nigerians are being urged by Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris Malagi to exercise patience with the government of Bola Tinubu’s reforms.

He stated this during his appearance on  Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday.

After taking office in May, Tinubu implemented a number of reforms, such as the naira’s floating value and the elimination of the hotly contested gasoline subsidy. The changes have caused inflation to skyrocket and an increase in the cost of living.

Malagi, however, is of the opinion that these are inevitable and that these reforms will eventually pay off.

“I want you to remember that the President is seven months old in office. I am not going to make excuses that seven months is just a short time,”

“But for a long-term plan, you need a lot more time to put structures. But of course, as you trudge along, there will be shocks, turbulence, and occasional dislocations that you would find. But the vision of the President is very clear: he wants to take Nigeria to the desired prosperity. He works day and night to achieve that. Every day, all the ministers and everyone are working in that direction but the results are not seen yet. We ask Nigerians to be a little more patient.”

Despite acknowledging that the government is cognizant of the struggles Nigerians are going through, the minister gave assurances that the nation’s authorities are making every effort to buck the trend.

As per his statement, the administration of President Tinubu implemented some policies to mitigate the effects of the termination of subsidies.

Among the things he mentioned were the intentions to introduce CNG buses throughout the nation and the pay awards given to employees of the Federal Government.

The high cost of living has been the source of periodic threats of strikes by Nigeria’s labor unions, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
