FA Cup: Manchester United struggle past Coventry to set up derby final

Manchester United fumbled a 3-0 lead against Coventry City in the FA Cup semifinals which resulted in a 3-3 draw at full time and saw the game progress into a shootout, which they clinched to be in the final for a record 22nd time.

Ten Hag’s men got off on a bright start, leading 2-0 at halftime, courtesy of goals from Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire.

After the break, Bruno Fernandes made it three and United looked very much in control of things and set to run off smoothly to the final.

However, things took an unexpected turn in the 71st minute when Ellis Simms pulled one back. Coventry saw the opportunity and built on it, eight minutes later,  O’Hare made it two for the championship side.

Right at the nick of stoppage time, Haji Wright converted from the spot to complete the comeback and send the game into extra time.

Victor Torp thought he has won it for Coventry, but the goal was disallowed for offside following a VAR check, much to the relief of Man Utd.

Penalties ensued and Man Utd scrambled out with a 4-2 to scale through to the final where they’ll square up against City rivals, Manchester City, in a repeat of last season’s final.
