Ini Edo confirms surrogacy rumours, opens up about past miscarriages

There has been circulating rumours that Nollywood ace Actress, Ini Edo recently welcomed a baby girl whom she birthed through surrogacy. The rumour mongers also had it that the actress sperm donor is a married man identified as Kome, whom she has been having a secret affair with.

After days of silence, the Akwa Ibom actress in an interview with Stella Korkus, finally opened up by affirming to the surrogacy rumours. She stated that she chose to have her first child through surrogacy to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother.

Confirming the rumours, Ini Edo said, “Yes I do have a daughter and I had her through surrogacy. The eggs are mine and so genetically, she’s my blood.

She also revealed that she birthed her daughter a year ago and was looking forward to break the surprise news herself but ‘mischief makers beat her to it’.

I chose this path to fulfill my dream of becoming a mother. I still have a good number of eggs frozen in case I decide to do surrogacy again or carry my baby myself.

I was hoping to talk about her on her first birthday in a few months but mischief makers beat me to it and spoilt the beautiful story with lies,” Edo said.

She however denied rumors that her child’s father is a married man, although she confirmed that she has been friends with the said Kome for years and there are no strings attached.

“It’s so sad that in Nigeria when a ‘single’ woman is friends with a guy, it must mean to people that they are dating.

Kome has been my friend for years and that is what it is, period. He is a responsible family man and doesn’t deserve to be dragged into my motherhood story.

I went for a donor for me and my baby’s peace of mind.

Another major reason I opted for a donor is that it scares me so much when I see banter and controversies between a mother and a father over a baby in public forums. For me, it is the fear of what that would mean for the child”, Ini said.

She also revealed how she suffered series of miscarriages in the past, but noted that this is not the reason she opted for this route because she still hopes to carry her child in her womb someday.

“I had a series of miscarriages in the past but that wasn’t my reason for going this route. I still hope to carry babies In my womb in the future, God willing,” she said.
