It’s a Kudos to our President – Maj-Gen Ayoola

A former Chief of Defence Research and Development, Major General Henry Ayoola has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s performance first three weeks in office.

He gave the commendation, Wednesday during his appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

Ayoola said within the period, President Tinubu has performed excellently. “It’s a kudos to our president,” Maj-Gen Ayoola said.

“We must give it to our president, asides from the balance, apart from the zonal and regional balance that we see, the quality of the officers is a testimony to what must have gone behind in thinking out and arriving at this list.

He added that there is no objection to Tinubu appointing Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as national security adviser (NSA).

MAJ-Gen Ayoola emphasized that the job has nothing to do with the hierarchy of the Nigerian Armed Forces while providing a brief history of the NSA position’s formation.

He clarified that since the role is clearly stated, it is needless for some Nigerians to be confused about the NSA position. Ayoola outlined the constitutional responsibilities of the NSA, claiming that the position serves as a clearinghouse where intelligence is collected, combined, and integrated to produce a national intelligence estimate that is used to brief the president.

He asserts that the NSA is tasked with gathering data from three major organizations: the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA). He is of the opinion that Ribadu can carry out this responsibility without being a member of the Nigerian military.

The NSA simply coordinates the three organizations’ intelligence operations to prevent them from acting inadvertently. The three agencies are not subject to the administrative control of the NSA, he added,
