Liverpool Survives United Scare, Remains Second

Liverpool had to rely on a late penalty to get a point from Old Trafford after falling behind against Ten Hag’s men despite taking the lead in the first half, as they remained second, behind Arsenal, who have a superior goal difference.

The visitors were the better side and were ahead 23 minutes into the game courtesy of Luis Diaz’s strike, a lead they carried into the break.

Five minutes after the break, Bruno Fernandes sent home a thunderous strike from half away across the pitch to level things.

Now building on the newfound momentum, a surge of attack from United saw them double the league in the 67th minute thanks to a sublime curler from youngster, Kobbie Mainoo.

The hosts looked set to run off with all three points when Liverpool got awarded a penalty late on, following a foul on Harvey Elliott by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Mo Salah stepped up and made no mistakes, balancing things in the 84th minute.

The Red Devils had to ensure the game didn’t turn into a nightmare like it did against Chelsea on Thursday when they went from winning 3-2 to losing 4-2 very late into added time. And were relieved at the sound of the final whistle, as they settled for a point-a-piece, as United is currently in 6th place.
