My victory Was a surprise to Me- Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential flag bearer, Bola Tinubu, has said his victory at the just concluded party primary election came as a surprise to him.

Following his victory, the former Lagos State Governor said Nigeria is back on track. He stated this on Wednesday while reacting to his emergence as the party’s presidential flag bearer, adding that he didn’t expect to win the party’s primary election.

“President Muhammadu Buhari, please forgive me for taking you this long. I didn’t expect to win. I must be intoxicated for victory,” the APC flag bearer said while mounting the podium to give his acceptance speech.

“We are confident, courageous that this nation is back on track. All our state governors here present. It is not my job alone.”

Tinubu urged other contestants to embrace unity, stressing that the common goal was to defeat the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He added,  “The competition is now over. Those who did not support me, you have nothing to fear. I owe no grudges or grievance. Let us all agree to join hands in defeating the PDP.”

Tinubu gathered 1,271 votes, beating his closest rival, the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who pulled 316 votes.

He won the election by a landslide, beating the likes of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo 235, Senate President Ahmad Lawan,152 and Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State 47 votes.

Tinubu will be contesting with the presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi of the Labour Party and others on the February 25, 2023, presidential ballot.
