Obi, Wike Meets to Discuss National Issues

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, said he paid a visit to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to discuss vital national issues.

Obi had on Wednesday visited the former presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at his residence in Port Harcourt. He revealed this on his official Twitter handle.

“Earlier today, I visited Port Harcourt to confer with H.E. @GovWike on vital issues of national interest,” Obi’s tweet, shared alongside photos of him and the Rivers leader, read.

The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, had also visited the Rivers Governor. Since images of the duo surfaced online, there have been speculations that their meeting was in line with the coming election. Recall that

Wike had lost the PDP presidential ticket to Atiku Abubakar. He had accused southern governors of betrayal.

“I have never seen how people can violate procedures and guidelines. Somebody has spoken. It is at that point he was speaking that he would have said, I am withdrawing. You don’t call him back,” Wike said. “I just said, ‘Look, this our party must not be destroyed.’”

Meanwhile,  Wike was among three persons considered to be Atiku’s running mate. However, Atiku picked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State.

There have been speculations of a rift between Atiku and Wike. It was reported that the Presidential candidate is working on a committee to meet with the Rivers Governor.
