Ronaldo marks historic 200 appearances with a winning goal

It was a perfect night for the Portuguese talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo, as his late goal was enough to secure a win over Iceland in their Euro 2024 qualifying game on the night that saw him bag a record 200 international appearances.

Before the game kicked off, the five times Ballon d’Or five winner, who broke Kuwait forward Bader Al-Mutawa’s 196-cap record in March, was presented with a Guinness World Records certificate to mark his latest feat.

It looked like the game between Portugal and Iceland would end a barren draw, but it was truly the Al-Nassr forward’s night as his 89th-minute goal broke the deadlock, handing his nation their fourth win in four qualifying games.

The 38-year-old made his international debut 20 years ago and has continued to grow strong and influential for his country’s national team with 123 goals and counting.
