Singer Mohbad Laid to Rest

Barely 24 hours after the tragic passing of 27-year-old Nigerian singer and songwriter, Mohbad, has been laid to rest according to the Muslim tradition.

The heartbreaking news of his death was confirmed by his management in a short statement posted on both his Instagram and X handles;

“It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Promise Oladimeji Aloba PK/A Mohbad (Imole) today, the 12th of September, 2023.

“Mohbad was light until the very end, and as we mourn the loss of the brightness he carried, the family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Imole is finally at Peace”

While the circumstances of Mohbad’s passing remain undisclosed, multiple reports cited Mohbad’s cause of death to be an ear infection.

However, Netizens think otherwise, as they blame the death of Mohbad on his former Label boss,  Naira Marley.

Recall that in an Instagram live session a year back, Mohbad told his fans that if he dies today, Marlian Music and his boss Naira Marley killed him.

In his words, “I didn’t know these people have been hating on me; they have been doing bad bad things on me. Because of this issue; everybody in the whole world please help me, if I die like this, it is Marlian Music and Naira Marley that killed me”.

Also, some months back, his friend and colleague, Bella Shmurda in an interview with Chude Jideonwo detailed how the late singer battled depression and almost committed suicide. See here.

Mohbad’s passing has elicited various reactions from within the music industry.  Rapper Emini Davolee, a former member of YBNL, had just called out Olamide for his response to Mohbad’s passing, suggesting that it simply is a mere “eye service”, as no one reached out to him during his constant battles with his record label.

“damn Mohbad”, Olamide tweeted with a heartbreak emoji. In response, Ex Ybnl Rapper Emini Davolee wrote, “Make Una make sure say una chop am too o. Awon olorikori say na damn Mohbad”, seemingly addressing Olamide directly.

Also, Netizens are dragging Marlians for killing the young champ and introducing him to a mentally unstable lifestyle.

One Eku Paula wrote, “Naira Marley destroyed the boy mentally. Canceled him against show promoters..they off Mohbad light

Bright wrote, “Guilty conscience wan finish my guy”.

Talk2elis wrote, “Keep the same energy you have hum when he was alive. No peace for the wicked”.

Fit Joseph wrote, “Naira Marley and Zino, every other person might be afraid to say this but I’m not afraid. Y’all have a lot of explanation to do, you did too much to my guy. His mental health, he was struggling, he couldn’t even afford the life he wished to live. All because of what you did to him, still you didn’t allow him to have breathing space. U people kept taunting him, This will be the beginning of your own too because Nigerians will never forget”.

Ifemeludike wrote, “Introduced him to drugs and that notorious, filthy and dangerous lifestyle. And you are dropping emojis. He was a kid under your care and you couldn’t help him. Rather you destroyed him. This is on you, man

Sharry Starrs wrote, “They definitely have some explaining to do”.

Mohbad was signed to Naira Marley’s”Marlian Records” and left the label in 2022 amidst concerns about his mental health.

Last year, Mohbad also posted clips of an alleged assault he suffered at the hands of Naira Marley’s Crew after he requested to change his manager.

Naira Marley denied the accusations, but Mohbad released a full statement countering Naira Marley’s claims, expressing how justice will be served someday.
