Super Falcons bow out of Women World Cup

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have bowed out of the ongoing 2023 Women’s World Cup, following a heartbreaking defeat on penalties to the Lionesses of England.

The defiant Falcons held the Lionesses off in an exciting showdown which got into extra time, after a goalless than 90 minutes, and an eventual penalty shootout.

Though the English women were reduced to 10 late on in the game, as Lauren James was shown a direct red for stomping on Michelle Alozie, the Falcons failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage.

With Nigeria missing their first two spot kicks, it was Chloe Kelly’s strike that saw England through to the next round of the competition.

The Lionesses will take on either Colombia or Jamaica in the Round of 16 on Saturday.
