Wizkid Receives BMI Award for Contributing to ‘One Dance’
Starboy Wizkid has had a stellar year so far from his Grammy Win to his hit song, Essence off his latest album, Made in Lagos which has been breaking records on Billboard. Now, he has been presented with a BMI Award for Contributing to ‘One Dance’, a song he merely vocalized with Canadian rapper, Drake.
King Promise shared a video where he and Wizkid are seen holding the award in a lounge setting with friends while Mr Eazi’s Skintight blares from the background. King Promise shared the video with the caption, “London what you sayingggg … sun is out ! boutta be a mad summer”.
The BMI Film & TV Awards are accolades presented annually by Broadcast Music, Inc., honoring songwriters, composers, and music publishers in various genres and Wizkid has add d this to his many accolades.
Wizkid’s feature on Drake’s global smash hit, One Dance back in 2016 grabbed a no. 1 position on Billboard Hot 100 chart. Now, Wizkid’s ‘Essence’featuring Tems hits a new peak on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, as it becomes the first fully Nigerian song to make it onto the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Wizkid has spent a lot of time in Ghana recently and is only now in London to kick off his Made in Lagos tour. In an interview with media personality Adesope Olajide, who runs a podcast that resonates around Afrobeats, King Promise was asked about Wzkid’s recent love for Ghana. In response, he said that Big Wiz had always loved the Gold Coast even before he (King Promise) even met him. King Promise also stated that the serenity and calmness that Ghana oozes might also be the reason why Wizkid loves it over there.
