Manchester United begin Champions League with defeat

Manchester United kicked off their 2021/2022 UEFA Champions League run with a rather embarrassing stoppage-time defeat to Young Boys.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring on his Champions League return for the Red Devils in his record 177 champions league appearance before Ole Gunnar’s men got reduced to 10-men following Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s straight red card for a poor tackle on Christopher Martins.

United maintained the lead into the break and after, before Cameroon winger, Moumi Ngamaleu’s equalised for the home side.

The visitors looked set to settle for a point apiece, but a 95th-minute mistake by substitute Jesse Lingard, who came on as a replacement for Ronaldo, allowed Jordan Siebatcheu with 18 minutes left to play, sending the host into sheer euphoria.
