Chelsea kick-off Champions League title defence with lone goal victory
Chelsea opened their defence of the Champions League with a victory as Romelu Lukaku’s second-half goal was enough to do the damage against a resilient Zenit St Petersburg at Stamford Bridge.
After a barren first half, Lukaku broke the deadlock with a 69th-minute header to help Chelsea begin their campaign on a favourable note.
Zenit missed a glorious chance to snatch a point late on, but in all, it was a deserved victory for the holders.
Malmo 0 – 3 Juventus
In the other Group H fixture, put three past Malmo as they opened their champions league account with a victory, despite enduring a slow start in Series A.
First-half goals from Alex Sandro, Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata did the damage.
Allegri’s men will take on Chelsea next on September 29 in Turin.
