Arsenal crash out of Europa League

Arsenal’s Europa League journey came to end on Thursday following a penalty shout-out defeat to Sporting Lisbon at the Emirates.

The entertaining end to end encounter came down to the wire after Pedro Goncalves cancelled out Granit Xhaka’s opener with an astounding 46 yards screamer.

Sporting’s keeper, Adam, saved Gabriel Martinelli’s spot-kick before Nuno Santos scored the decisive kick for the visitors.

Now out of every cup competition, both at home and Europe at large, Mikel Arterta’s side will have all their attention placed on winning the EPL, with their next game against Palace this weekend.

Meanwhile, Manchester United saw off Real Betis to book a place in the Europa League quarter finals.

The clubs that made it through to the last 8 of the competition will know their opponents in today’s draw.
