BREAKING: Mr. Ibu is Dead

Legendary Nollywood actor, John Okafor popularly known as Mr. Ibu has given up the ghost after undergoing seven surgeries and two amputations.

Mr. Ibu was diagnosed with a critical illness which resulted in the amputation of both his legs, with the hope that he would recover.

His family had said the actor successfully underwent seven successful surgeries and would be flown abroad for further treatment soon until the news of his death hit the internet today.

The sad news of Mr. Ibu’s passing was confirmed by popular Instagram blogger, Tosin Silverdam who announced that he died at Ever care hospital where he was undergoing treatments.

To back this up, screenshots of a conversation between an Evercare worker and an anonymous has been making the rounds, as the worker confirmed that indeed the comic actor passed on in the early hours of today, March 2, 2024.

John Okafor a.k.a Mr. Ibu was a much-loved comic actor who brought laughter to the screens of all and sundry. 

The movie, “Mr. Ibu” made Mr Ibu a household name in Nigeria, and John Okafor’s trademark. His effort in the movie also bagged him the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Comic Actor in Nigeria in 2005.

The Nollywood veteran has since starred in over 200 Nollywood films such as Husband Suppliers, International Players, Mr.Ibu in London, Police Recruit, 9 Wives, Ibu in Prison, Keziah, Mr Ibu and His Son, Coffin Producers, among others.

In an interview with Vanguard Newspaper back in May 2022, Okafor disclosed alleged that he was poisoned for the third time. He stated that he was already “seeing people on the other side” but God brought him back to life.

He said, “My illness was actually perpetrated by people that hate me. They did what they did to me. Later, I was taken to the hospital. The doctors are prophets. So, they went into my system and they told me what was wrong and what they are going to do. I said ‘Whatever you are going to do, please, do it, let me live because if I die like this the enemies will laugh’. And then the doctors said ‘Okay, there’s no problem’.

“At the time, I didn’t know what happened. I left! So, whatever I was saying they recorded it. I was saying something like somebody who is going mad. I wasn’t actually seeing anybody. But on the other side where I was at that time, I was seeing some dead people.. God brought me back.”

The actor said his sickness taught him a “big lesson”, adding that he is surprised that he is still alive.
