Edo 2020: Security Agencies monitors state ahead of election

In order to maintain peace and order in the forth coming edo state gubernatorial election, Security agencies in Edo on Saturday embarked on a combined exercise tagged “Inter Agencies Show of Force” to alert residents of the state of the agencies’ preparedness for the Sept. 19 governorship election.

The News Agency of Nigeria NAN has  reported that security agencies that participated in the exercise included the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police Force, and the Directorate of State Services.

Others were the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Air force), Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigerian Immigration Service and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Addressing journalists after the exercise, CSP Chidi Nwabuzor, the Police Public Relations Officer, Edo Command said that the exercise was to ensure that the state was well monitored ahead of the election.

Nwabuzor also said that it was to send a strong signal to criminal elements in the state that security agencies were ready to ensure a peaceful election and should not be tried.

He further said that the security agencies were working with the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure a credible election, come next Saturday.

The  areas covered during the exercise included Sapele Road, Sokponba Road, Erediawa Road and Murtala Mohammed way.

Others were Ikpoba slope/Ramat park, Aduwawa Road, Upper mission extension, New Benin, New Lagos Road, Boundary Road, Airport Road, Akenzua road, Ekenhua road and the Uselu/Lagos Road. The  exercise is said to continue on Sunday

Meanwhile, In line with efforts to ensure tight security towards a hitch-free Edo State gubernatorial election next Saturday, the Police Public Relations officer DCP Frank Mba revealed yesterday that the deputy inspector general of police in charge of Research and Planning, Adeleye Oyabade was deployed to supervise the general security arrangement for the September 19 governorship election in Edo state.

Mba who disclosed this yesterday in Abuja, said Oyebade would be assisted by an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Karma Hosea Hassan, in charge of Federal Operations at the Force Headquarters Abuja and eight Commissioners of Police.

Oyabade was charged to superintend over the entire security architecture and ensure effective monitoring of the election and due enforcement of all electoral laws in the state.
